The artist's work responds to the tug between her homeland of Ireland and her adopted country of America. She is drawn in particular to the "discarded place," places in Ireland that echo the vivid color of the houses of Red Hook or the watery stillness of the Gowanus Canal, such as the pier and houses on the abandoned island of Gola in northwest Donegal, and the brightly painted houses of Ballydehob and Crookhaven in West Cork.

These places sit in a surprisingly comfortable fashion beside the canals and postindustrial areas of Brooklyn.
